"We need to reduce our atmospheric greenhouse gas levels to below 350 parts per million in order to avoid climate catastrophe, the U.S. and the world must begin phasing out coal immediately in order to reach that target."
— Leading climate scientist Dr. James Hansen (Director NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies)

White Stallion 101

Permit Applications filed with:
TCEQ — Air & Water
LCRA — water pumped from the Colorado River, 56 square miles annually

Public Hearing Request with
Corps of Engineers

(deadline Nov.13, 2009)

EPA, TPWD, USFWS say:
"no permit for White Stallion"

MERCURY is a toxic heavy metal:  smokestack emissions will make the Colorado River un-fishable
(same as Houston Ship Channel) — seafood from Matagorda County shrimp & fish farms will be unfit for human consumption (loss of income for Matagorda County Seafood Farms)
1/70th of a teaspoon MERCURY wind-borne onto a 20-acre lake will make the fish unfit to eat — and White Stallion will dump 100 lbs of poisonous MERCURY every year onto the Colorado River, Matagorda Bay, local Matagorda County Seafood Farms.

Lavaca Bay has been a EPA SuperFund Site since 1993 due to MERCURY - since 1988 has been closed to the taking of fish and crabs by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

White Stallion Coal Plant wants to remove 35,706 Acre-Feet of water from the Colorado River each year.  35,706 Acre-feet is 56 Square Miles of water 1 foot high — East Matagorda Bay is 59 Square Miles
.
The 56 Square Miles of Colorado River water blown out their 60-STORY Smokestacks each year — Water equal to 1/4 the entire City of Austin.

Sept 08, 2009 - EPA Rejects Texas Air Permit Process - Coal Plants Review.  Texas' permit process fails to follow Clean Air Act.

"CLEAN COAL" is a lie.
"Clean Coal" is multi-million-dollar PR campaign by the Coal Industry to persuade the public and elected officials to support coal despite the harmful effects of coal generation on public health and the environment.

Texas Medical Association report:  MERCURY/Coal-Fired Power Plants

Each year 24,000 premature deaths - 550,000 asthma attacks - 38,000 heart attacks - 12,000 hospital admissions attributed to Coal Plant pollution

"The heart of this film is really about issues of health, future generations and the value of our own land and resources.  The film was made to support the story of the Texas coalition and their struggle against a giant power company.  It is our way of giving other states and communities a model for what can happen when people take personal responsibility and get results.  We want to let people know that they don't have to give up hope.”
